LAKEFRONT MOORING
Proper mooring is critical to the success of any floating lakefront product. We recommend using Aquaglide mooring lines and weight recommendations as a starting point. Weight recommendations are intended to keep products in place during a normal range of weather conditions faced in most anchorage areas. Even in so-called light-wind areas, storms, squalls and other extreme weather events can happen quickly, and as we like to say, ‘luck favors the prepared.’
AQUAGLIDE LAKEFRONT
There are many variables involved in adequate mooring, and our recommendations do not purport to consider all of them. It is the owner/ operator’s responsibility to evaluate the needs of their specific site, to monitor anchored items, and to adjust as necessary. Some circumstances may require additional weight or different types of mooring.
Aquaglide weight recommendations are based on the maximum potential wind loads generated by each item at a wind speed of 26 knots (48 km/h, 30 mph), with a modest margin of safety built in. Anchor weights are standardized to make construction simple, and to accommodate the use of anchor bags. Weight recommendations are based on the apparent weight of concrete mooring blocks or weight bags in either salt or fresh water. If significantly stronger winds are forecast, we recommend partially deflating larger items or removing items from the water for storage.
Weight recommendations are meant to specify the anchor weight or equivalent holding power. This provides a guideline for the use of weight bags, ground screws, or earth anchors in cases where these solutions are preferred.
The following information details the best mooring solutions for most lakefront items. If there are site-specific concerns, please feel free to reach us directly or consider working with a mooring specialist aware of your local conditions.
